Demand and prices peak on the Littoral. Neuchâtel, enlarged by Peseux, Corcelles-Cormondrèche and Valangin, leads the market, with Laténa to the east and Milvignes to the west close behind. La Grande Béroche, Boudry, Cortaillod and the Entre-deux-Lacs villages follow, helped by the lake, the vineyards and the rail line to Biel/Bienne and Lausanne.
Up in the Montagnes, La Chaux-de-Fonds and Le Locle, whose watchmaking town plans are UNESCO-listed, have a large stock of older apartment buildings at prices well below the Littoral. The valleys sit in between. Val-de-Ruz, a few minutes from Neuchâtel, stays close to the cantonal average, while Val-de-Travers and the La Brévine valley trade lower. With no districts left in the canton, the market is best read region by region.
